Suleyman Kerimov (Anzhi Makhachkala's owner) is willing to sign Frank Lampard (Chelsea) and Steven Gerrard (Liverpool) to the fledging club from Dagestan, Russia. Anzhi is also targeting Gennaro Gattuso of AC Milan.
The signings occur at a time when Anzhi Makhachkala signed players such as Samuel Eto'o, Roberto Carlos, Yuri Zhirkov, and Diego Tardelli. Aznhi is also rumored to want to sign Fabio Capello when his time as England's coach is finished.
Anzhi is willing to offer Lampard and Gerrard each a two year contract of $20.5 M. I am not sure if Lampard and Gerrard are willing to make such a move.
Lampard and Gerrard have their families in England, are over 30, and have a lot of money. It would be difficult to imagine them leaving everything in England to play in Russia.
Anzhi is not the only club from Russia invading the Premier League. Lokomotiv Moscow has offered $18 M to buy Roman Pavlyuchenko from the Tottenham Hotspur.
Lokomotiv Moscow will probably have better luck than Anzhi in its acquisitions. Regardless, it remains to be seen what will be the end result of the Russian raid on the Premier League.
