Chelsea and Atletico Madrid will face each other in the UEFA Champions League [UCL] semifinals. The first leg will be held at the Estadio Vicente Calderon in Madrid, Spain on April 23.
The second will be celebrated on April 30 at Stamford Bridge. It is not an easy draw for the Blue Nation although it is better.
Imagine if Chelsea had drawn with Real Madrid or Bayern Munich? Jose Mourinho would have faced a former club wanting vengeance for the insult from the former.
Pep Guardiola would have enjoyed himself facing his former La Liga rival at a UCL Semifinal match. What will the Blue Nation face in its UCL Semifinals against Atletico Madrid?
This is the first time the Spanish club arrives at the UCL Semifinals. Their previous experiences with UEFA Matches were two Europa League, two Super Cups, one Winner’s Cup, and EUSA.
Atletico Madrid is currently number seven in the 2013/14 UEFA Coefficient. They have yet to lose a UCL match with eight victories and two draws in their record.
Thibaut Courtois may face Chelsea as the goalkeeper especially with the UEFA Ruling. UEFA ruled that Chelsea cannot pressure Atlletico Madrid to choose or not choose Courtois even though he is on loan.
Midfielder Arda Turan and Forward Diego Costa are considered part of the top scorers of Los Colchoneros. Unfortunately, they may or may not play secondary to their injury.
Turan suffered a groin injury and Costa’s was the hamstring. Midfielder Raul Garcia [with four goals in nine matches] and Defender Miranda [two goals in ten matches] may present a challenge to Chelsea.
Leo Baptistao [Forward with one goal in three matches] may be another important player. Atletico may survive the first leg comfortably and lose in the second.
The Blue Nation won the UCL once in 2011/12 after defeating Bayern Munich on the basis of penalties. During the current season, Chelsea had six victories, three losses, and one draw.
Jose Mourinho complained about Chelsea’s problems with defense and forgot that he loaned Romelu Lukaku to Everton. Chelsea is number four in the UEFA Coefficient and has players such as Eden Hazard, Demba Ba, and Fernando Torres.
Petr Cech is an effective goalkeeper who thrives under pressure which I saw in Miami. It was during the match between Chelsea and AC Milan at Sun Life Stadium in the summer of 2012.
Forwards Andre Schurrle and Samuel Eto’o might not be present secondary to injury. The same apply to Midfielder Marco Van Ginkel.
If Chelsea survives the semifinals, it would be from a massive victory over Atletico. It may or may not happen
Atletico Madrid 2-1 Chelsea
Chelsea 1-2 Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid advances to the finals.
These predictions are a personal opinion and may or may not occur during the match.
