Benfica and Newcastle will face each other in the UEFA Europa League Quarter-Finals. The first leg will be held in Lisbon within the first week of April.

The second leg will be held in Newcastle within the second week of the same month. While Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is looking forward to the encounter, a review of the two teams is needed.

The reason is to predict the outcome.

SL Benfica

Benfica won the last four of its UEFA Europa League matches by defeating Bayer Leverkusen and Bordeaux. The squad members that are expected to play a big role in this match are Artur and Oscar Cardozo.

Nemanja Matic and Ola John may play a minor yet significant role in Benfica’s Europa League match. The last minute goal by Cardozo against Bordeaux saved the Portuguese from an equalizer.

It also saved Jardel from further embarrassment after his own goal gave Bordeaux the equalizer. Cardozo’s last minute goals further cemented his reputation as one of the greatest European strikers today.

On another note, Benfica has yet to defeat the English clubs in UEFA Quarter-Finals. The Portuguese team’s record against the English is nine victories, four draws, and 16 losses.

While Newcastle emerged second place in the Group D UEFA Europa League, the Quarter-Finals will be hard. The results for the team in the current Europa League are four victories, five draws, and one loss.

Hatem Ben Arfa who is a winger for Newcastle will not participate in this match. He suffered an injury in his hamstring.  Shola Amoebi and Papiss Cisse are people to watch in this match.

While the first leg may not work to the advantage of Newcastle, the second leg will be in their hometown. Steve Harper and Tim Krul may be the goalkeepers used in this vital match against the Portuguese.

If Newcastle wants to advance in the UEFA Europa League, it will have to be tough and consistent. There were no apparent signs of consistency when Newcastle faced Anzhi Makhachkala in their last encounter.

It was Cisse who saved the match for Newcastle with a last minute goal. Benfica is expected to be a tougher team to defeat than Anzhi.

While Benfica may emerge as the winner, Newcastle will fight until the last minute. It is expected to be an intense match for those involved.
