Fernando Torres praised Chelsea and condemned negative criticism from the press. Torres made his comments known in an interview published at ESPN UK.
The Chelsea forward emphasized the recent victories in the FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, and Europa Cup. What can be said about Torres and his comments?
Torres is right in challenging the press to tone down its criticism of Chelsea. While not denying the problems affecting the Blue Nation, excessive criticism worsened the problems.
Everyone including The Premier League Insider was involved in the excessive criticism. Besides winning three trophies within two years, Chelsea accumulated other achievements worth mentioning.
2012/13 Premier League [EPL] season
During the 2012/13 EPL season, Chelsea managed to finish third place behind Manchester City and United. The Blue Nation won 22, lost seven, and tied nine of their 38 matches in the season.
The Blue Nation had the tally of 75 goals scored for and 39 against for a differential of 36. The results make them eligible to participate in the 2013/14 UEFA Champions League.
In spite of the negativity surrounding Fernando Torres, he has improved within the last EPL season. The statistics from The Blue Nation shows Torres scoring 23 goals within 64 matches.
This is an improvement from the 2011/12 season when Torres scored 11 goals within 49 matches. Who could not forget that the Spanish forward scored only one goal in his first season with Chelsea?
Who knows what to expect from Torres next season should Jose Mourinho become manager?
China and Asia
While the Blue Nation received negative publicity in the West, China fell in love with Chelsea. The English club opened a world football school in the Asian giant in cooperation with Guangzhou R&F FC.
The school is located in Guangzhou Province and will train Chinese youth in the ways of Chelsea. There are plans underway for a tour of Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia in 2013.
Chelsea FC toured Asia in the past visiting China, Malaysia, and Russia in 2008. The Blue Nation toured Hong Kong [China], Brunei, and Thailand in 1997.
The Chelsea received maximum exposure when the Blues toured the USA. The 2012 visit was the latest in a series of tours to the American Continent.
Chelsea faced the Seattle Sounders FC in their city, Paris Saint-Germain in New York, MLS All Stars in Philadelphia, and AC Milan in Miami. The real winners were the people who enjoyed these matches including the underwriter.
While it is easy to criticize, it is difficult to find the positive aspects. Fernando Torres challenged the press and people to be objective in its opinion of Chelsea.
We the people and the press should accept the challenge and find a balance.
