Chelsea FC: Why Robert Lewandoswki Must Replace Fernando Torres This January
The British sports tabloids including The Mirror are speculating about the Polish Striker Robert Lewandowski. According to The Mirror, Lewnadowski does not rule out a transfer to a Premier League club from Borussia Dortmund when his contract expires at the end of the current season.
While Lewansdowski was rumored to be signing with Bayern Munich, the Daily Mail reports that this may not be true. According to the tabloid, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Manchester City supposedly express an interest in the Polish striker.
Chelsea has ONE opportunity to replace Fernando Torres with Lewandowski before other clubs sign him. It would be a win win situation for the parties involved.
Lewandowski is one of the latest personalities in Polish and Bundesliga football. He has a desire to expand from Borussia Dortmund to other clubs.
According to ESPN-FC, Lewandowski worked miracles with the German club since his arrival in 2010. One example of a miracle were the four goals he scored against Real Madrid during the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League season.
During the current Bundesliga season, Lewandowski scored six goals within eight matches. He managed two shots and 40 assists within the same number of matches.
Fernando Torres signed with Chelsea during the 2011 January Transfer Window for $80m. The purpose was to reinforce the striking position within Stamford Bridge.
Since then, Stamford Bridge has suffered from Torres lack of or attempt to score. According to the Chelsea FC website, Torres scored 37 goals within 139 appearances for the Blue Nation.
In the remaining 2010/11 season, he scored one goal in 18 appearances. Torres improved his score with 11 goals within 49 matches in the 2011/12 season.
The 2012/13 season saw Torres score 23 goals within 64 matches. It was not enough for the supporters of Chelsea.
In the beginning of 2013, Torres was jeered by Chelsea supporters after his poor performance against Swansea. The underwriter was witness to an incident in which Torres was jeered by Spanish supporters during the match between Spain and Haiti celebrated last summer at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida.
The club is not helped with the continuing presence of Torres. Chelsea is in third place with 14 points in the current Premier League table. Premi
Stamford Bridge is in need of a striker that will deliver consistency and goals. Lewandoski can do the job while Torres is now in the twilight of his glory.
It remains to be seen whether Jose Mourinho and Roman Abramovich can make the call to Lewandowski before its too late.
