John Terry was informed by the Football Association of England (FA) that he was stripped of the Captaincy of the English National Team. The news has received world wide publicity in the Press Association and the Daily Mail.

The reason was a ruling by the Westminster Magistrate Court for Terry to stand trial for supposedly racially abusing Anton Ferdinand of QPR. Terry has denied the accusation and stated that he will go to trial to clean his reputation.

Ferdinand denies hearing any racially abusive words from Terry. Chelsea is supporting John Terry in the effort to clear his name.

Fabio Capello (England's coach) wanted patience and expressed hope in the British Justice system. While the whole affair is becoming a circus,  the FA did the right thing in removing Terry's captaincy.

Terry remaining as Captain would have placed doubts on the FA's commitment against racism. The whole affair would have hung like a cloud over England's participation in Euro 2012.

The scandal would have diverted attention from England's participation in future world football events. It is hoped that John Terry can clear his name but it remains to be seen.
