Don Hutchinson of The Journal wrote about Gus Poyet and Sunderland. During the current EPL season, Sunderland appeared destined for relegation.
Connor Wickham [Forward] and the squad from Stadium of Light defied the odds against Manchester City and Chelsea. Wickham scored the two goals that almost gave Sunderland a victory of it were not for a late goal from City midfielder Samir Nasri.
Wickham along with Fabio Borini [Forward] stunned Stamford Bridge with a two goal victory over Chelsea. This resulted in the first home defeat for Jose Mourinho in his second time with the Blue Nation.
Who cannot forget the victory over Cardiff City that pushed Sunderland out of relegation? While it appears that the Black Cats is saving itself from relegation and needs one more win, this is not easy.
They must defeat Manchester United, West Brom, and Swansea in its last three matches to remain safe. There should be no complacency within these vital weeks according to Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone.
The Black Cats must unite as a team by playing in attacking, defense, and offensive mode. Wickham, Borini, and Mannone are the key players in Black Cat’s remaining season but the team should not be dependent.
Sunderland must go with a clear mind and forward looking attitude which defies expectations especially against Manchester United. After all, the mind may determine a team’s fate along with the hard work.
