The Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland face each other next Monday at White Hart Lane. Both teams have a big interest in winning for different reasons which will be explained later.
The possibilities and predictions for both clubs warrant mentioning as well.
The Spurs are currently in sixth place with 56 points and may qualify for the Europa League. They have 17 wins, five draws, ten losses, 40 goals for, 44 against, and a difference of minus four.
A win may further the club’s opportunity to qualify for the tournament and increase points in the current Premier League [EPL]. They have a lot to do in this match and the remaining season.
Their current season was not one of the greatest under Andre Villas-Boas and Tim Sherwood. Under Villas-Boas, the Spurs lost Gareth Bale to Real Madrid while signing players such as Vlad Chiriches, Christian Erikssen, and Roberto Soldado.
The results did not help the Spurs especially with the players trying to play in an organized fashion. The last three matches under Villas-Boas resulted in the Spurs remaining scoreless against West Ham, Manchester City, and Liverpool.
In spite of the problems, Villas Boas had the highest winning percentage [55.7%] for the Spurs since 1899. This was according to the statistics drawn by Darren Lewis of The Mirror.
This did not save the former manager of Chelsea from being terminated at White Hart Lane last December. Villas-Boas eventually went to manage Zenit St. Petersburg in Russia.
Tim Sherwood replaced Villas-Boas but did not fare any better as the latter’s replacement. The Spurs lost to Benfica at the Round of 16 Europa League match to Benfica.
Even a supporter of the Spurs sent a message to Zenit St. Petersburg concerning Villas-Boas. It was in response to a scoreless defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on March 30.
The supporter wanted the Russian club to return the Portuguese to White Hart Lane and their response was no.
Players For The Match
Paulinho [Midfield], Emmanuel Adebayor [Striker], and Chiriches [Center Back] may be in the match and provide a challenge. Expect them to score or assist in scoring goals.
Under Gus Puyot as manager, the club located at the Stadium of Light has a dark future. Sunderland is in the relegation zone with 25 points and in 19th place.
The Black Cats have six victories, seven draws, and 17 losses in their season. They have 28 goals for and 48 against to make a difference of minus twenty.
Adam Johnson and Jack Colback are one of their principal midfielders. Jozy Altidore is another forward who with the two midfielders may help Sunderland.
If Sunderland wants to save itself, it must win its remaining matches. This may be impossible since the Black Cats play Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City in the remaining season.
According to an article in The Daily Mail, the Black Cats managed a 46.4 percent of their goals this season. This was done on a set piece which can be considered a plus for the embattled Black Cats.
Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 Sunderland. Tim Sherwood will receive a temporary reprieve from those who want his resignation as Spurs Manager.
