In less than a month, Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich will face each other again. This time it will be in the UEFA Champions League Finals to be celebrated at Wembley, England on May 25, 2013.
Both teams made it to the finals after their victory over the Spanish teams FC Barcelona and Real Madrid F.C. Which team will come out with the UEFA Champions League silverware?
Let’s find out
Sebastian Kehl told UEFA.com compares his team to a giant waking up from a long sleep. Kehl has every reason to say this given the rise of the Borussia during the current UEFA Champions League season.
The last encounter with Bayern Munich in a Bundesliga match resulted in a draw. Borussia has Robert Lewandowski who scored four goals against Real Madrid during the first leg of the UCL Semifinals.
Lewandowski has been compared with Lionel Messi and is currently the person to watch in this match. Roman Weidnefeller as a goalkeeper may present a counterweight to Bayern’s Manuel Neuer in deflecting attempts to score.
In the last encounter between the two Bundesliga giants, Weidnefeller was able to block Mario Gomez’s second attempt to score. Mats Hummels and Mario Gotze will be key players.
The latter is expected to transfer to Bayern Munich at the end of the current season. What may help Borussia in the finals is its ability to allow the clock to roll while the opponents attack.
In the end, Borussia is rested and can counterattack a weakened opponent. Lewandowski may be instrumental in counterattacking Bayern like he did with Real Madrid.
Bayern cannot allow itself a sense of complacency after defeating FC Barcelona in the semifinals. The reason is based on pride and the presence of a top squad.
Manuel Neuer is expected to block any attempts to Lewandowski to score goals at his expense. Neuer may have learned from his experience with the Polish Messi when Bayern and Borussia faced each other.
Gomez is going to be one of the predominant strikers in this match.
The two Bundesliga teams have the advantage of working together as a team. There is no dependence on anyone player and this was a plus in the UCL.
They also have a winning and not looking back mentality needed in sports. This UCL final in Wembley is expected to be intense with Lewandowski scoring four goals.
Gomez will score four goals with one of them based on penalties. It is expected that Borussia and Bayern may take this to overtime.
The result will be the following:
Borussia Dortmund 4-4 Bayern Munich with Borussia winning on the basis of penalties.
