The Premier League Insider predicted a victory by Real Madrid against the Cypriot team APOEL in its UEFA Champion League match. We also predicted a victory by Chelsea against Benfica by a small margin.
Our predictions for the first leg of the UEFA Champion League (on March 16, 2012) were true with one exception.
APOEL 0-3 Real Madrid
The match was played in Cyprus and it was far from a slaughter. It appears that APOEL managed to resist the onslaught of Real Madrid.
The second half was too much for APOEL as Benzema scored two goals and Kaka one within the last 25 minutes of the match.
It was a great match filled with tension and excitement. APOEL may have lost but it gave Real Madrid some headaches.
The thrill will be gone for APOEL in the second leg of the UEFA Champion League final.
Benfica 0-1 Chelsea
Kalou scored the only goal for Chelsea which managed to edge by. Chelsea was able to stay strong although the match was scoreless for the first 75 minutes.
It was great to see Chelsea defending itself but it will not win the UEFA Champion League. Chelsea is affected by internal crisis involving its players and change of managers.
The possibility exists of a last minute miracle but don't count on it.
