The US Men’s National Team [USMNT] and Canada faced each other in a friendly match in Texas yesterday. The result was a scoreless draw and a USMNT performance worth blowing a raspberry.

The USMNT had the hometown advantage at the BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas. They were in possession of the ball and match most of the time.

The team was unable to use this to their advantage against the Canadians. There were opportunities to score which the USMNT did not use to their advantage.

Alex Morgan, Hope Solo, and the USWNT would have defeated the USMNT in a match. What was the excuse of a USMNT player?

Omar Gonzalez USMNT Defender said that he could not find the back of the goal net. Is this the way to advance against Honduras next week?

If the USMNT wants to classify for the 2014 World Cup, it better start taking its matches seriously. The USMNT must tighten its defense and midfield while closing the open spaces in the field.

The mentality of the USMNT must change from passive to taking a proactive approach towards the match.  Instead of conforming to minor victories and draws, the USMNT must imagine itself winning big such as the 2014 FIFA World Cup or the CONCACAF.

When a team thinks big, the victories come most of the time. The way to change the mentality would be to start each practice with the song “We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions” interpreted by Queen.

After the song, the USMNT [maybe it is being done] should train under ALL forms of pressure. The pressure would include the earth elements of water, mud, heat, cold, and wind.

Jurgen Klinsmann who is doing a great job as US Coach Manager can make major changes to the roster. He can also demand the necessary sacrifices for the team to advance.

The USMNT is no longer in the 1990’s and must take the steps towards adulthood AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. It is hoped that the USMNT can do all of this in a matter of one week when it faces Honduras.

The alternative would be for the USMNT to compete in the 2018 and 2022 World Cup in Russia and Qatar respectively. At the same time, qualifying for the next two World Cups is not guaranteed.

Only time will tell if the USMNT can reach its potential in one week.
