Manchester United and Chelsea face each other this Monday in their latest historical Premier League [EPL] match. The venue is at Old Trafford and the center of the conversation is Wayne Rooney’s future with the Red Devils.

Wayne Rooney

According to an article by Alan Nixon on The Mirror, a letter was sent to Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich. The purpose of the letter was to inform Abramovich and Chelsea that Rooney is not for sale.

The letter from United to Abramovich and Chelsea included an advice to not talk about Rooney. It appears that Chelsea Manager Jose Mourinho is not aware of the letter.

Mourinho stated [again] his desire to sign Rooney from Manchester United and Willian from Anzhi Makhachkala. He made his intentions clear during a press conference published in the Chelsea FC website.

While both teams apparently agreed not to talk about Rooney until after Monday, a battle may be brewing. Rooney apparently is not happy at Manchester United and the club wants him to stay.

Chelsea apparently is not giving up until they sign Rooney or when the transfer window closes. While anything is possible, there are two likely scenarios.

  1. Manchester United retains Rooney with the latter rebelling against the team.
  2. Manchester United and Chelsea negotiate with Rooney with the latter signing with the Blues just minutes before the Transfer Window closes.

After a brief discussion about Rooney’s future, it’s time to discuss the match.

Manchester United vs. Chelsea

According to the ESPN-FC 2013/14 EPL scale, Chelsea is currently in first place with six points after playing two matches. The Blues have their new [once previous] new coach Mourinho and new players.

Chelsea appears to be united in its last two matches after defeating Hull and Aston Villa. The Blues recently acquired Willian from Anzhi Makhachkala for £30m or $47m.

They appear to have left behind the chaotic years since Mourinho’s previous departure from Stamford Bridge. We may be witnessing a new era in the history of Stamford Bridge.

Manchester United is currently in third place with three points and is behind Manchester City. The Red Devils are above fourth place West Ham United.

The new coach David Moyes is attempting to fill the void left by retiring Sir Alex Ferguson. His position has not been easy taking into account the Rooney saga.

United can count on players such as David De Gea and Robin Van Persie against Chelsea’s Petr Cech and Frank Lampard. What can be the end result in this latest battle of the Titans?
